North Bondi Children's Pool — A Tranquil and Safe Escape for Families The North Bondi Children's Pool, often called the Mermaid Pool, is a true gem for families visiting Bondi Beach. Situated at the northern end of the beach, this shallow, sheltered seawater pool offers calm and clear waters, making it an ideal spot for young children and families to enjoy a safe swim. Unlike the main beach, which can get crowded and rough, the pool provides a peaceful retreat where children can splash around while parents can relax nearby. The pool is beautifully framed by rocks and has stunning views of the ocean and Bondi’s coastline. It’s the perfect place to spend a few hours in the sun, and the atmosphere is much more laid-back compared to the busier parts of the beach. The gentle waves here create a serene and relaxing environment, and the shallow waters allow for a worry-free experience for families with young kids or anyone just looking to unwind by the sea. In addition to its calming waters, the North Bondi Children's Pool is home to a unique mosaic mural created by local schoolchildren in the 1980s. This colorful and charming piece of artwork adds a touch of history and community spirit to the area, making it feel even more special. Over time, the mural has weathered, but it remains a beautiful feature that reflects the local culture. For anyone seeking a peaceful place to enjoy Bondi’s natural beauty while avoiding the crowds, the North Bondi Children's Pool is a must-visit. It’s a perfect spot for families, locals, or anyone looking to relax in a safe, scenic environment. Whether you're here to take in the views, swim with the kids, or just enjoy some quiet time by the water, this pool offers a unique and memorable Bondi experience.

Perfect to enjoy the beach without being afraid of the waves or the deep water. We enjoyed both pools in October with our two boys (3+6). In the early morning the waves might push over the edges but in the afternoon you can even see small fish in the backmost pool. Watch out for the pool at the back, watershoes might be helpful. The other pool is totally safe.

A gem of a little spot that's our of the way of the busyness of the beach. Unlike other ocean pools, this water is quite shallow (of course, depends on tides), as it is indeed for children. 🚻 Not immediately adjacent, but toilets and change rooms located at the North Bondi spot, so not far away

North Bondi Children's Pool (Mermaid Baths) – Review Location: Ramsgate Avenue, North Bondi (Northern end of Bondi Beach) Best For: Toddlers, young families, and a relaxed dip away from the surf The Vibe & Setting Tucked away at the northern tip of Australia’s most famous beach, the North Bondi Children’s Pool is an absolute sanctuary for families. Built originally in 1947, it offers a stark, peaceful contrast to the chaotic swell and heavy crowds of the main beach. Cuddled right against the rocks and its conjoined twin—the deeper Wally Weekes tidal pool—it provides gorgeous, sweeping views of the entire Bondi coastline without the intimidation of the open ocean. Safety & Water Conditions Perfect for Littlies: The water here is shallow, calm, and crystal clear. It is specifically designed as a protected seawater wading area, making it ideal for toddlers and young kids to splash around safely and build confidence in the water. Naturally Sheltered: A sturdy barrier of rocks frames the pool, breaking the power of the ocean waves. Instead of crashing surf, you get gentle ripples and a secure, controlled environment. Facilities & Accessibility Access: The pool area sits flat with the promenade, offering great pram and wheelchair access right up to the water's edge (though note that the neighboring Wally Weekes pool requires stairs). Amenities: Open-air cold showers are available on-site to wash off the salt. Public toilets, changing rooms, and shaded picnic areas with BBQs are located just a short walk north near the surf club and park. Food & Coffee: You are spoiled for choice here. The North Bondi grassy knoll and surrounding strip are packed with top-tier local cafes for a post-swim flat white or a quick bite. Local Insider Tips Check the Tides: Because it is a natural tidal pool, it’s always best to check the local tide charts. While the kids' pool holds shallow water well, the adjacent Wally Weekes pool relies heavily on a high tide to be fully functional for a proper adult dip. Parking: Like everywhere in Bondi, parking along Ramsgate Avenue or the nearby carpark can be incredibly competitive and expensive, especially on a sunny weekend. Arrive early or opt for public transport if you want to avoid driving in circles. The Verdict Whether you're looking for a safe space for an infant to experience the sea for the first time, or you just want to sit on the rocky ledge and soak in the iconic views while the kids play safely, this spot is a classic. It’s a beautifully maintained slice of Sydney's coastal heritage that remains a premier choice for families.

Went 25.1.26 Children rock pools, one shallow for 5+ y/olds and one for babies. Water was clearer, cleaner in the 5+ pool; there were little fishies too. Outdoor cold fresh-water available with one strong tap to hose down wheelchair & equipments. Toilets near children rock pools were very bad.
