Reviews
I recently completed the Intro to Drawing and the Intro to Painting sessions with David Hamilton. David is a fantastic teacher -incredibly calm and patient, knowledgeable, and happy to help as much or as little as you need. I was genuinely surprised by the end of 5 classes at how much I'd improved, and of what I was capable of making! I took MACs advice and did the drawing class prior to painting and this was a massive help once I got into the paints. Class sizes are under 10, mine were 6-7, with plenty of time for 1-1 coaching. Highly recommend MAC!
I attended both the Water-colour course and the floral art courses at Melbourne Art Class and got so much energy from them. The teachers were great. Being provided with all the materials, a peaceful space and instructions, meant you could just get there after work relax, have fun and learn as well. I would highly recommend Melbourne Art Class.
My partner and I recently completed the "Introduction to Painting" short course and loved it so much we have started painting regularly at home. Our teacher David was very knowledgeable and helpful, and there was plenty of time to ask questions and get 1 on 1 feedback. Highly recommend!
Over a two year period, I have attended 6 of the classes MAC has provided. The value for money is high, quality of tuition levelled to the desires and drive of the students, and the environment provides a wonderful opportunity to connect, learn and socialise with fellow students and teachers alike. I can personally vouch for the positive impact these classes have had on my creative practice and the way I see and reimagine the world around me - take a look at my Instagram account for proof.
I attended a beginner’s art class in Richmond and found it frustrating. I am a raw beginner and expected the class to be more of a directed learning experience, focusing on learning the basic techniques and tools. The approach taken was more self directed with the artist provided some instructions at the beginning of the class and then we were left to work on our own with some feedback during the session. The two hour session was too short to really get involved with the drawing. Over the course, I was not really introduced to many techniques which I would have expected so I did not develop the basic drawing skills that I would have liked. The class may suit someone who has some skills and wishes to further develop them under supervision of an artist.
