Melbourne Jiu-Jitsu Academy

While traveling to Melbourne for the first time with our toddler-- Professor Ivan made his academy a highlight for myself and my son. Both friendly and deeply knowledgeable, I greatly appreciated every roll with the folks there. Prior to our trip, I reached out to multiple academies and am so glad I landed at MJJA. If you're reading this as a local (or are just visiting) I do not believe you can go wrong here; definitely set up a visit soon!

Awesome Ju Jitsu centre. My son has been training since he was 3 with Ivan and the team. He is now 7. The discipline of Ju Jitsu is getting him prepared for life and Iven is like a second father figure. A wonderful experience - 5 out of 5 stars.

MBJJ academy- Regent St, Prahran ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We feel incredibly lucky to be part of the Melbourne Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy family. Our daughter began training here in February and has since developed an unwavering passion for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. What Ivan and his team of instructors have built is nothing short of remarkable. The level of dedication, skill, and care they bring to each class is inspiring. When our daughter first walked into the academy, she was shy and hesitant-even reluctant to step onto the mat. But with gentle encouragement from one of the other students and the unwavering support of the instructors, something clicked. Now, we can’t get her off the mat! The transformation in her confidence, resilience, and sense of self has been incredible to witness. Ivan and his team are not only highly qualified and technically brilliant, but they also have an exceptional gift for working with children-and together with the parents too. Personally, I’ve been truly inspired by Ivan and his team. Their passion for empowering the next generation-especially young women-has deeply resonated with me. I’ve recently joined the women’s-only self-defence classes on Sunday mornings, and it has been an incredibly empowering experience. It’s a safe, supportive space that builds not only physical strength and skill, but also confidence and community. The team at MBJJA create a nurturing, respectful, safe and empowering environment that brings out the best in every student, regardless of age or experience level. This academy is so much more than a martial arts school-it’s a community, a family. The culture of kindness, discipline, and support is felt from the moment you walk through the doors. We’re so grateful to be part of this journey and can’t recommend Melbourne Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy highly enough. Thank you, Ivan and team, for everything you do. We couldn’t speak highly enough of the positive influence on our son’s life Ivan and his terrific team have been. It’s far more than just the technical element of JJ that impresses us most. The sense of community, discipline, respect for others (and self respect) is palpable. Add to that the care Ivan’s team have in doing their utmost to ensure the kids smile and have fun during their class on their martial arts journey is compelling. We’re very grateful our son for this part of his life is in the capable and caring hands of Ivan.

My 4 year old daughter has been attending Melbourne Jiu-Jitsu since September and I couldn’t be more grateful for the way Ivan and his dedicated team work with her. His patience is remarkable — he meets her exactly where she’s at, never rushing, always encouraging, and creating an environment where she feels safe and confident. What really stands out is his gentle discipline. He has this calm, steady way of guiding the kids that earns their respect.
