From the very beginning, they created a positive, supportive, and respectful environment where the kids felt encouraged to learn and grow. What truly stands out is their patience and dedication. They not only teach karate techniques with great skill and professionalism, but also instill important values like discipline, confidence, and respect. Okukan is a beautifully run dojo in every way. Sensei Sandra has a unique approach to teaching children technique and the passion for karate. She is caring, fun and tough which is the perfect balance. The principles and philosophy of Shitoryu Karate-do are developed in the children with subtlety and grace. I'm always amazed how quiet the room is with 10+ children in the room. The annual tournament and special events, including grading are always something to look forward to. Meg is the most amazing and organised administrator who is attentive to parents needs. I highly recommend Okukan Karate in Coburg.

My daughter has attended classes at Okukan Karate for the last 5 years and during this time, Sensei Sandra has tirelessly supported her development and provided incredible mentorship. Sensei is deeply passionate about karate and she imparts this passion upon her students in every class. Sensei has created a learning environment for children where they are continuously challenged to build a sense of discipline and resilience, while also maintaining an element of fun and playfulness. Meg does a fantastic job handling the administrative and logistical side of things, never failing communicate important information and always being willing to help with any problem big or small. The annual Taikai is always a lot of fun and gives the students an opportunity to put their skills on display for their families and the Okukan community. Thank you Sensei for being such a tremendous influence and positive role model for my daughter.

Our boys love learning karate at OKUKAN. The Sensei strikes a wonderful balance of fun, form and formality. Meg in the office is very friendly and provides great communication and support for the kids and parents alike. The annual taikai (tournament) is an excellent event, bringing all the students together to showcase and celebrate what they have learned. We highly recommend this dojo for kids' karate lessons.
