Purruna Spencer Newton Centre - YMCA

A beautiful space for everyone to use. We loved the free baby aqua swimming lessons they offer to introduce infants to water. The swimming teacher, Maxine, was so lovely and patient. An added bonus is the incredible views this place has!

The most clean pool around. Amazing view to the city and grand building design. Brand new facilities, members of the public can access it outside of school hours, including weekends. $8 for a swim! Surprisingly quiet so far. Highly recommend.

Rating: 3/5 The Good: This is a beautiful facility with a competitive price point. The view from the pool overlooking the city is stunning, and the pool itself is excellent—I was able to get a solid 1.5k swim in comfortably. Areas for Improvement: Accessibility: Finding the entrance is a challenge. There is no signage at the main gate, and the tall hedges hide the entry completely. Google Maps doesn't navigate to the correct spot, which led to a 10-minute detour through back streets and can potentially accidentally lead you through scotts College. Safety: The tall hedges also create dangerous blind spots when exiting. Installing round convex mirrors at the exit would greatly improve safety for departing members. Pool Management: There is no dedicated recreation lane when swimming on the 10/02/2026, which lead children in the lane and not lap swimming . There was no lane management from the lifeguard on duty, which made dodging children difficult during my workout. Amenities: The poolside showers are quite poor—very weak pressure, no heat, and you have to constantly hold the button to keep it running. Great potential here, but the user experience needs some refining!

We attend this facility very frequently. Generally pretty good with helpful staff. When it opened it was sparkly and clean. However now, the whole place is absolutely FILTHY. Really gross changing rooms. Even the common areas such as the cafe are becoming unhygienic. This has been raised before but, ignored. Please clean Purrana!
