Our son has been training at SOFMA, for the past two years. The instructors are great, patient and technically excellent, most have come through the SOFMA training programme. The dojo also has a strong family feel to it with many events outside the dojo, movie nights, buddy days, xmas parties etc What sets SOFMA aside from many other dojo’s is a commitment to teaching core values throughout the training programs, not just skills and fitness. I would strongly recommend for those looking to equip their kids with skills that will help them not only at school but also in life.
Friendly, Inspiring and Movitation PLUS!! This is the place to be!! Great family orientated Martial Arts School striving to provide a really good grounding to all students, boosting their confidence while teaching them all aspects of Martial Arts and what Martial Arts represents. I personally started martial arts to get fit, and i am so glad i made that first step! 19 yrs later I am still at it. Its a great way to stay fit and boost your confidence with the knowledge of knowing you can also defend yourself in most situations you are placed in. Glen is very professional in his method of teaching and a great inspiration to all who train under him.
Glen ran a Women's self defense class today at Floreat Forum. It was so well led and very informative. My daughter and I really enjoyed ourselves and leant a lot. Glen was so respectful and I loved that the fee went to charity.
About ten years ago, I trained here as a student with very little money. Before signing up, I was told that my membership could be paused over the university holidays when I travelled overseas to visit my family. That reassurance meant a lot to me at the time, because I was far from home and just trying to find something positive in my life. However, when the time came and I asked to pause my membership, the interaction felt quite different from what I had expected. The response I received came across as rude and harsh, and as a young student, I found it intimidating and disheartening. After that experience, I decided to cancel my membership and not return. I was told the direct debit would continue for another month, although I could continue to train during that time. Even so, I didn’t feel comfortable going back. Looking back, I just wish the situation had been handled with a bit more kindness. At that stage of my life, I was simply a student trying martial arts to build some confidence, and a compassionate approach could have made a world of difference.
Not recommended. I found their duty of care was well below the standards expected. On a couple of occasions of sparring my daughter was put with a higher grade than her & they just battered her & as the instructors did not intervene. When cancelling her membership they demanded we pay a months notice even though she hadn’t been for 2 months. More interested in taking your money than anything else
