Starfish Swim School

We absolutely love Starfish. It’s a fantastic team in a small, welcoming venue—easy to park, and never overwhelmingly busy or noisy. We’ve been attending for two years now with all three of our kids, and it’s been such a positive experience. The teachers are consistently friendly and knowledgeable, and we’ve been lucky to have some truly exceptional ones. The more experienced teachers who work with the younger children during the week are especially impressive—they have a real gift for gently encouraging even the most reluctant swimmers into the water and helping them build confidence and enjoyment. BJ and the front desk team are also wonderful. They take the time to understand your needs and help match your child with the right teacher and lesson time, which makes juggling family schedules so much easier. We couldn’t recommend them more highly.

Great environment for kids learning to swim. My 2 have been here for 2 yrs and progressed very well. Teachers are friendly and well trained. The kids also confirm the pool is nice and warm. Very happy.

My two children have been attending Starfish for the past 7 years, starting from just 6 months old. We’re so grateful to have found such a wonderful swim centre. They’ve learned so much, grown in confidence, and built great bonds with the instructors. It’s even better knowing we’re supporting a family-run centre that feels more like friends. Both our of kids have been coming since they were little and we are happy. Although the teachers have changed occasionally, we have found that staff retention has been much better here than at any other centre that we have tried. We have been happy with the quality of the teaching. It is quite a warm and welcoming atmosphere, with the reception staff knowing most (if not all!) of the kids by name and greet you warmly when you arrive. They have been really helpful in supporting us to navigate timetables/swimming levels etc and have been flexible to accommodate us. The kids love the jelly beans at the end of class. At the end of each term, the centre puts up a big inflatable obstacle course and then kids absolutely LOVE this! A warm, welcoming swimming centre.

If this was purely a ranking of the teachers it would likely be a 5 stars - they are pretty good and seem to progress a range of children well. But wow, the admin is quite shocking. Engagement with them multiple times over a couple of years, and it is always a mix of complete disengagement, or just lack of knowledge and care. It’s a shame, we cringe any time we think we might have to ask reception a question, when normally that would be something that’s enjoyable.
