A great indoor swimming center. The temperature of the swimming pool is comfortable in different seasons. It’s very suitable for children to learn swimming. Their management is excellent and the instructors are also very professional and friendly. There is ample parking in the building.
It was our first class at this swim school, and unfortunately the experience was very disappointing. The class started 10 minutes late, and the instructor appeared genuinely disinterested in the students and the session. There was little support or communication when we had little knowledge on what we should do. Perhaps she is fine with other kids who she knew for a while but she made us feel very unwelcome and uncomfortable. We decided to cancel our booking and account immediately after the class. It’s a shame, as the facility was walking distance from our home but the lack of care and professionalism from the instructor left a poor impression.
Took our 18 month old for his first swimming lesson in early December. The instructor walked out and I introduced myself, my partner and my son. The instructor’s response was “I won’t remember your names”, after which she continued firing instructions at us and the (notably only one) other parent in our session. My partner and I were very clear that our son had never had a swimming lesson or even been in the water beyond shallow paddling pools before. We reiterated this several times to the instructor who was completely dismissive. Once we entered the pool, her attitude continued to be sharp and abrasive. The *first* thing I was told to do with my son, who had *never* been in a swimming pool before, was to hold him under his arms and drag him about a foot under the water. He was understandably extremely distressed about this, so her instruction was to keep doing it, 4 or 5 more times. When I voiced my concern, her response was “that’s not bad, if you think *that’s* cracking it, trust me I’ve seen babies crack it” When the session ended, she climbed out of the pool and disappeared back into the office. Our son is now absolutely terrified of all water, to the point even seeing his bath causes immense distress. Before the swimming “lesson” he was overjoyed at the sight of water. Very harsh and uncaring treatment from somebody who should be a professional. Everyone we’ve spoken to about this since, including paediatricians has been shocked. We were very unimpressed and will not be returning, and will be telling anyone who listens to stay away.
I would like to give some feedback on today's swimming class. My two children have been learning here for over a year and we have been quite satisfied. However, today, one of the coaches' teaching methods left us somewhat confused and disappointed. We noticed that she spent the entire class specifically tutoring one child and hardly paid any attention to the other kids. Our children were also neglected. This feeling of being ignored is very unpleasant and even made us a little worried. We hope to understand the situation. Thank you.
My grandson of 18 months attended 3 weeks ago for his first lesson. During the lesson the instructor told the parents to fully submerge the babies. My grandson hated this and since then cries whenever he goes near water. Going to the beach is now a traumatic experience for him. My son was a first time participant so he followed the instructor’s directions. I am not a swimming instructor but I am a teacher who has supervised many swimming sessions of young children and I am very concerned about the instructor’s methods. My experience has been that children need to be introduced to immersion gradually. My grandson will not be returning to Glen Osmond State Swim. I would be interested in State Swim’s response.
