This place gives you too much homework, like I remember in holiday class they gave us 3 whole booklets to complete in one day. They would rank us based on our trail test results so they lowered my self confidence. I guess this place did get me into a selective school, but the staff really couldn't care less about you. Also, the classrooms are filthy
Horrendous. You can already tell from the outside that the windows are significantly barred and the air conditioning is overly cold. You can catch the flu from even being in there for a certain amount of time. The layout of the centre is pretty confusing, and the idea of gaining a significant amount of knowledge, that is enough to make you from being a 0 IQ to someone who can make it into James Ruse is too good to be true. Infact most teachers in this centre are NOT qualified to teach and probably do NOT have a working with children number, which under Australian law is mandatory. The material fee is also RIDICULOUS, as just 10 10 page booklets will cost you $40, and you can buy exactly the same amount of paper and ink for around $15. The teachers also make you copy working out, which is messy and probably useless, as I dont think you are allowed to bring an exercise book to the OC and selective test and there is way too much homework for it to be any use, as most people just leave it blank and give it to the teacher. Its a nasty cycle and you are just wasting your money . The teacher also makes you write a 1 page task two times, because apparently you need to edit your work which can just be done easily. Why cant I make the "teachers" write something twice or type up something twice just because they might get something wrong, Which brings me to the next point. Repetition. For some reason, the teachers think that writing 1+1=2 50 times will help you learn it. Infact it doesn't. It just makes your hands tired and make you not want to learn anything. I think that STC really needs to up their quality of education and make it more realistically priced. Remember, this is AUSTRALIA. Kids want to have fun and learn, and will speak up if something is wrong. I hope that they correct the situation, because as far as I am concerned, most of those people are not very familiar with Australian law.
Ahem...Allow me to recall my experience at this tutoring centre. Day 1: (Term 1, Year 5) I walked into the classroom and sat down and then......SUDDENLY a teacher stomps into the room and screams "IT'S A LOVELY DAYYYY!"(also I felt like I nearly had a heart attack). I was petrified and was not aware previously that there were screaming teachers at STC. I felt very intimidated. If you go to STC you will probably know who I am talking about. Apart from that class, the whole day was fine-is... Term 1: I was not extremely impressed. The work is easy-ish and the classrooms were ABSOLUTELY filthy! I was aware of who the intimidating and scary teachers though so I was able to have a precaution if they were teaching me. It wasn't too bad but nobody really wants to give up half their day going to tutoring. Half yearly test: It was fine... Holiday Courses: They GIVE A WEEK WORTH OF NORMAL HOMEWORK FOR ONE DAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY! I stumbled upon many other scary teachers who for some reason treated me nicely (probably because I had no friends in the class and hardly talked). There was this one teacher who talked really softly and mumbled so much that I nearly dozed off to sleep in class. Trial Tests: They were ok...The teachers seem sort of rushed when explaining the questions. It was overall better than the main classes Extra help classes: I was never invited to maths help class or any of the other stuff because idk...I heard it is fine though... STC is not very good but I doubt that there are any amazing tutoring centres out there. Also I dont go to STC anymore because I finished the selective test and blah blah yeah
Not much better than the original centre. In fact WORSE. It is even more crowded and poor maintained. Not even a SINGLE teacher there is actually qualified to teach and the supervisors are just Year 7 schoolchildren. Honestly, DO NOT SPEND MONEY HERE you are actually just donating to a bunch of rich people and this centre brings shame to the word 'school'.
Poor response, and quality. The staff can't even show the names of their teachers. Basically it's running by bunch of kids who are teaching the children. Questions is if STC teachers has Working With Children check.
